Here is something you should know about us: Jocelin and I LOVE to eat leftovers. Our ratio of leftover meals to freshly cooked meals is about 8 to 1. We don't enjoy spending all that time cooking and cleaning, so when we DO cook, we make sure to have enough for, uh, a couple weeks. And when we eat out, we try to save some for later. (Make sure to ask Jocelin about the time she dug through the trash at Chuy's to find her leftovers.) Some of you don't eat leftovers. And we don't understand that. It's perfectly good food - frozen in time in the freezer or fridge. The good thing for us is that YOU always end up giving US your leftovers. That makes us happy because we'll eat your leftovers, too. Anyway, this is a real-life conversation that took place a few days ago. I did not make this up.
A couple of months ago, our church, The Austin Stone, began a series on the vision of the church. One of the 4 pillars of the church is to "Live In Community", and the church chose to interview us since we are the leaders of one the church small groups. (This video isn't really "about us", but I didn't know what other section to put this in.)
I was thinking about what I could post next in the About Us section, and since I've been uploading videos lately, it made me think back to our wedding reception videos (yikes!). (For those of you who were in these videos, be very afraid.) At our reception, instead of showing the traditional slide show that everyone else shows, we wanted to be different so we showed two videos that we put together: a music video to the song, "I Do" and a "Making of the Wedding" spoof.
Since that day, we've made lots of new friends and also cut our hair (me - Marcus). This means that many of our new friends (since 2002) have never seen this video OR my old hair. This was also the heaviest I've ever been. Enjoy.
Here is a list of 10 things we have changed about ourselves BECAUSE of the other person:
1. Marcus won't lie on the bed anymore with his "outer garments". Jocelin doesn't like it when any clothes that have experienced the outside of the house touch the bed.
2. At nice restaurants (or wedding receptions), they give you cloth napkin. And after the meal, Jocelin will fold it into thirds and spread it on the table so she can put her elbows on it and not get any food on her clothing. She learned this from Marcus.
3. Marcus now has to eat something sweet after dinner. He NEVER needed to before, but now he craves at least a piece of fruit.
4. Jocelin now makes to-do lists regularly. She NEVER made them before she met Marcus.
5. Marcus now wears tighter, more stylish, clothes. Jocelin likes to
take credit for this. But maybe it is just a result of changing
times? Or him having lost weight since getting married?
These two characters are what Jocelin and I would look like if we were South Park characters. Christina showed us a website where you can make your own South Park look-alikes, so we had some fun with it. Don't they look just like us?
It all started on July 4, 2001. Marcus and I both had the day off, so we decided to go out to lunch at Todai, this all you can eat sushi restaurant in Houston, TX. Midway through the lunch, Marcus says to me, "Jocelin, I have a confession to make." At this point I was a little nervous...He went on to say, "Remember that weekend you went to South Padre Island with Rini, Cindy and Yvonne (this was in early June), and I told you I went home to Dallas?...Well, I lied." At this point I was really confused..."ok," I said. He went on..."I was actually in Cleveland spending the weekend with your family..." I was extremely confused and did not believe him at all!! He went on trying to convince me that it was true...he said he played golf with my dad, went to church with my family and sang tenor in the choir...all these thoughts were running through my mind...he continued..."Well, do you know why I was in Cleveland with your family?" Then, things started clicking and I smirked and said..."Maybe..."
